Astrotourism Place Lab Established in Šavnik, Montenegro
On February 25, 2026, the Astrotourism Place Lab was officially established in Šavnik, Montenegro, as part of the MedSkyTour project (Interreg Euro-MED).
The Place Lab was set up according to the Quadruple Helix cooperation model, which brings together representatives of institutions, the academic community, the business sector, and civil society, with the goal of jointly creating sustainable and innovative solutions and strategies in the field of astrotourism. This model of work enables the integration of knowledge, practice, public policies, and the needs of the local community into a unified development process.
The objective of the Place Lab is to develop and test innovative services in astrotourism, while simultaneously protecting and promoting the natural night sky as a valuable resource for the sustainable development of the destination.
Those present were addressed by Borka Lješković, representative of the Ministry of European Affairs and National Contact Person for Interreg Euro-MED and URBACT IV, as well as Tamara Radulović, Director of the NGO Center for Tourism Development and Cooperation, while the process of establishing and facilitating the work was led by consultant Anđela Đokić.
Through joint work and the exchange of experiences, a structured process has begun that will, in the coming period, result in concrete proposals and pilot initiatives in the field of astrotourism, for the benefit of the local community and the partners involved.
The establishment of the Place Lab represents an important step toward positioning Šavnik, Žabljak, Plužine, Mojkovac, and Pljevlja as recognizable destinations of sustainable and innovative astrotourism
